Habitually Good

As I have posted before, I now use Word for posting to my blog. One thing that quickly became irritating is me having to type up the tagging markup at the end of every post. I use Ultimate Tag Warrior as a plug-in to manage my tags and add my tags under specific markup at the end of every post so that the plug-in can pick them up.

My first thought was to use a Macro to automate the process. Easy I thought, but NOT. I couldn’t find a way to start recording a Macro in the ‘New Blog Post’ document. I don’t even see the Developer Tab in this window, even after enabling it in the options. What do I do now? Google, of course, but alas, I couldn’t find anything on Google as well.

Finally, I saw a small button (see picture below) on the status bar which had a tooltip (when I moved my mouse over it): “No Macros are currently recording. Click to begin recording a new Macro”. Aha…

Well, I clicked. It asked me to make some settings as shown below:

I chose to assing it a keyboard shortcut, and so clicked the button, which opened this dialogue:

All well, I recorded my Macro and pressed stopped (the stop button was in the same place as the record button). Now, I had chosen in the dialogue boxes above to save the Macro and the Keyboard shortcuts in the blog.dotx template. Now, when I tried to save the changes to the template, I got to know that I can’t. Dotx types do not allow macros (VBA projects) to be saved in them.

Well, the workaround was for me to save them in Normal.dotm (Dotm types are macro-enabled), which thankfully works in blog.dotx as well (which must be based on normal.dotm). Anyway, I should have read the Office manual before beginning this as it took me a long time before I could figure this out.
