Upgrading WordPress to 2.3
Phew… after about 4 hours of grueling work, I have finally managed to upgrade my WordPress installation to the latest version: 2.3.
Note: I first followed all these steps on a local copy of my blog and tested it out. I created the local copy from the backup taken in Step 3 below. Once everything was working, it was only then that I replicated the steps on my hosting site.
Major steps followed:
- Find a 2.3 compliant theme for the site.
- Customize the theme to put in all the little changes that I had so painstakingly put into the last theme.
- Backup current WordPress Installation: Database, Install Directory, All Uploads.
- Upgrade WordPress according to upgrade instructions found at Wordpress.org.
- Run the import wizard to convert my Ultimate Tag Warrior tags into WordPress Tags.
- Upload the new customized theme and activate it.
- Figure out a way to insert tags into posts while writing posts using Windows Live Writer.
- Write a test post (which is this one).
There have been some hiccups in the upgrade. I get an error for every post that I try to edit and Save.
Update: I was getting a “WordPress database error: [Table 'wp_post2cat' doesn't exist]” error above. It turned out that the error was being caused by an incompatible plugin that I use to generate sitemaps. I went over to the publisher’s site to get the latest version, and everything is now peachy.
The other major hiccup is that I have to edit each and every post to remove the inline tags that I used to put in when I was using UTW tags plug-in.

Yeah, my static page never came back even with all my plugins disabled. It was a straight database problem. My other static pages wasn’t touched. Which is strange.
