Upgrading to WordPress 2.5 - it’s all good
WordPress 2.5 just got out and I decided to upgrade as soon as possible (I was also getting some weird database errors all of a sudden and most evidence pointed towards WordPress code not able to handle newer MySQL databases - after upgrade the issues are gone).
It went simpler than the last time I upgraded.
As usual the simple steps:
- Backup your blog - both the database as well as the files.
- Copy the new WordPress installation files (I excluded the entire contents folder in my case and replaced everything else).
- Run the upgrade script (http://blogpath/upgrade.php).
- Go through the screens below and you are done (unless of course you encounter errors, which I didn’t)

Its that simple… In the next post, my impressions of this latest and greatest version.

If you think it is all good then you are out of your mind. A fair number of plugins still don’t work, themes are getting horribly broken (henceforth the reason for a late night coding session to stretch 8 pots of coffee past midnight), and have you looked at widget page. My sites are hard coded, so I hadn’t until I got a frantic call from someone who bought a theme from me a couple of months ago…
I grant you it is an easy install, but so is vista and so was Windows ME but I hardly call either of them all good.

Hi Brad,
Actually you are right. This one worked for me without a glitch, but I am struggling with another site that I had. It’s still not up (and I really don’t want to go through restoring the old version, so am trying to fix it).
Luckily for me, all the plugins just worked.
Cheers.
