The Miniature Earth

If the world’s population was reduced to 100, it would look something like this… This website throws open some startling statistics about the humans on this planet. Here are some of them:

  • 9 would be disabled
  • 43 live without basic sanitation, 18 live without an improved water source
  • 6 people own 59% of the wealth
  • 13 are hungry or malnourished
  • 14 can’t read, 7 are educated to a secondary level
  • 12 have a computer, 3 have an internet connection
  • 1 adult between 15-49 years of age has aids
  • Defense expenditure is $1.12 trillion and $100 billion on development aid
  • If you have a fridge, a closet, a bed, and a roof on your head, then you are richer than 75%
  • If you have a bank account that you are amongst top 30 richest
  • 18 have struggle to live on less than $1.00 a day, 53 on US $ 2.00 or less

It certainly makes you appreciate what you have and also makes you want to wake up and do something about it. I come across a lot of groups who are trying to help, but it seems that it can never be enough. Here’s a link to a few that I have talked about: Social Responsibility.

Note to self: Gotta do something to help.
