The Magic of Stumble Upon (or is it?)

Everyone would tell you that one of the best ways to build up popularity on your site over the long term is to get it Stumbled Up. And I saw the magic first hand yesterday on my blog. Below is my visitor graph:

image Now, if you see, my number of visitors just sky-rocketed. And sure enough, after looking at the traffic sources, it turns out that 70% of this traffic came from StumbleUpon.com. Nice, I thought. Someone really liked something on my blog (a group of someone I guess).

But WAIT!

All the traffic in that picture came to one particular Url. This old post about Akismet that I wrote long ago. The kicker here is that when I ‘thumbed up’ this page, it said that this is a new page that was discovered and thus I had to tag it and submit it.

The question is: “If the page was never added to Stumble Upon index, how could it be referred through Stumble Upon?“.

Well, I am not complaining. If only this happens more often.
