SyncMyCal Extends Support to other versions of Outlook

SyncMyCal has released a version for Outlook 2003 Basic. Now this is a big deal because this means that they have finally put together a version of SyncMyCal which uses COM Interops to interface with Outlook instead of VSTO as they have been doing.

Basically, if you use VSTO to develop an office extension, then it doesn’t work for Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 Basic Editions. These editions are what you typically receive if your Office came bundled as OEM. The other problem with VSTO of course is that you cannot create extensions for versions prior to Office 2003. This is the reason for why SyncMyCal was not available for Outlook XP and Outlook 2000.

However, now that the Outlook 2003 Basic version is out, the XP and 2000 versions can’t be far behind. Also, I have it from the inside that they are also releasing the Windows Mobile version next week. It’s going to get pretty exciting real soon.
