Stupid Geek Trick – WordPress Search

Here’s a trick that I have used a number of times in the past. It is related to searching within a website. There are tons of websites on the Internet which are based on WordPress engine.

There are also tons of sites which do not have a search box (an example being www.ghumakkar.com, which is a travel site). Now I went to this site and wanted to search for something specific. However, there was no search box on this site. I could have simply used Google, but here’s something even simpler.

The site uses WordPress (as you can tell by looking at its footer all the way down on the page). Now, even if the site doesn’t provide a search box, you can search on the site because WordPress has builtin search.

Here’s how.

  • Simply go the website (in our example, www.ghumakkar.com).
  • Add s=<searchterm> at the end of the URL. Replace <searchterm> by whatever you are searching for. If there are multiple terms separate them by a ‘+’ sign.
  • Press Enter

So if I wanted to search www.ghumakkar.com for articles on Thailand, then I would simply type the following in the address bar: http://www.ghumakkar.com/?s=thailand. Or if I wanted to search for articles on Corbett Resorts, I would type: http://www.ghumakkar.com/?s=corbett+resort

Its that simple.
