Problems in verifying your PayPal account
I signed up with PayPal a long time ago. It allows me to make secure payments online. Recently, it has allowed me to receive payments online as well. When you sign-up with PayPal, you are by default an “Unverified” user. This carries certain limitations for you (there is a cap on the amount you can send). To become verified, the process involves:
- Allowing PayPal to charge a small sum on your credit card,
- And when your credit card statement comes, there is a 4 digit code present on the statement against the transaction,
- Which you are supposed to key-in on the PayPal site.
Sounds very simple, doesn’t it? Well, it is simple if Murphy is not playing havoc with your life. I have tried to get verification done with my credit card a number of times and I got a failure message each time. The PayPal site tells me that there is something wrong with my credit card. Of course, I have used the same card through PayPal a zillion times to make purchases.
Anyway, I called up my credit card company and they told me that the problem is at PayPal end (they couldn’t tell me what the problem is). I contacted PayPal support and they told me that the problem is with the credit card company. So, I was stuck.
Well, I am stuck no more. I simply added another credit card that I have and I used it to verify my account. That worked like magic. So, if you are facing the same problem where you are having trouble getting your PayPal account verified, I suggest adding another card.
For the record, the card which didn’t work (though I am still not sure whose fault that is) is from ABN AMRO; and the one that worked is from ICICI. I live in India.

Very recently, PayPal has integrated with a lot of Indian Banks (ABN Amro, excluded)…
Otherwise, you can get a credit to your PayPal registered Credit Card for a fee of $5.
