Problem Sending Mails from Home?

This is probably a very India specific post. But here goes: I have an Airtel DSL connection at home through which I plug into the Internet. Sometimes when I have to send emails from my Outlook, I get bounce backs because my ISP-assigned public IP has been listed with some Spam List or another (SBl, PBL, etc.). Now, this happens a lot and it’s not my fault. That is because this IP address is probably being shared by others on the ISP network.

So what do I do? I do two things:

  • I go and request a delisting of this IP address; typically, this involves going to spamhaus.org and submitting a request there.
  • I REBOOT my DSL router. This allows me to get a different public IP address assigned.

Problem Solved.
