Outlook 2007 is freezing slow? Here’s how to thaw it out.
The whole weekend I worked on trying to reduce the size of my PST file in the hopes of increasing the responsiveness of Outlook 2007. Nice software, but utterly useless due to the sluggishness that is more a habit than an exception with this software. I archived and deleted till I was able to reduce the size from 2.5 GB to 1.2 GB. My target is to reach a size of around 500 MB. However, it’s easier said than done.
Scott Hanselman points to another action that you can take (which would probably be more effective) to speed up your Outlook (and also offers hopes by mentioning that the Outlook team is all over the problems being thrown up by their software). He mentions a hotfix that Microsoft just released to address some of the performance problems. It can be downloaded here: KB933493. I have installed this and there is perceivable improvement in performance, however it still is pretty bad (and I don’t even use RSS on my Outlook).
