Changed hosting provider

I just did two things simultaneously. I upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress: 2.2.1. The second this I did was to change my hosting provider from WebHostAsp to BlueHost.

Well, why did I change? Mostly because WebHostAsp wasn’t working out for me at all. I repeatedly had the following problems:

  • Intermittent availability on the website. At least once a month, my site used to go down. It would have some issue or another. There were times when I couldn’t even access the control panel.
  • There used to be weird problems such as not being able to write to a file on the server (even through FTP).
  • Support is poor. There is no way though which I can get immediate attention to a problem. There is no phone support. There is no live support. And email support is something that seems to me works only during their business hours.

When I look back, I keep thinking why I went with them in the first place. I think the primary reason was that they were one of the cheapest to provide both Asp.Net as well as PHP under the same hosting plan.

Well, that was the past. Now I am hosted with a PHP only account at BlueHost, who seem to show the potential of not having any of the problems mentioned above and then some more (at least they have Live Chat and 24×7 phone support).

In the meantime, if anyone finds anything broken, please do let me know by emailing or by leaving comments on the blog.

  2. *Sigh* I totally agree with you. I should have done the research on WebHostASP first before going to them. Their service totally sucks. My website has up and down in the past few months. With my monitoring software, the availability is merely 80%. I hope those others should avoid webhostasp.com as well.

  3. I found out that GoDaddy is pretty good as well… in case you are looking for a switch… Also, as an update… Zero downtime so far for me on BlueHost.
