Hi Vaibhav
By now you must be on a new hosting site.
I was considering hostgator but saw reviews that now they have gone bad. Obviously, I am confused. A newbie, don't know what to do. I wanted to know how you chose your current host and why & how.
When you say Publish with Wordpress software, what is it? I have d/l wampserver & wordpress s/w on it on my pc, but how to put that on a site? Or you do something different?
I know its tough to reply all this, can you give me a link where I can read thru?
Thanks for nicely writing this blog.

@aka - both are unrelated. If your domain registration provider is forcing you to host with them, then you need to look for a better domain registrar.

Vaibhav,

Could you maybe answer a general question about domain registration?

When I was on the verge of registering a domain, I was alerted to the domain privacy problem. Via Wikipedia, Metafilter, and finally EFF. Spam is something I want to avoid.

None of the commercial services make it clear whether you can split your domain registration and hosting between two different services.

So, for instance, I would register with one service that seems to respect privacy, but host with another service known for its customer service.

Is that possible, or does hosting always result in the transfer of domain ownership / registration / whois information?

Thanks!
a.k.a.

I know this is an older post, but wanted to say thanks for putting it out there.

The decision on where to host is making me a little batty right now.
