Hindi web pages show wrong text
I always used to wonder why all the Hindi pages I visit on the internet show mistakes in the text. They would always have the vowels placed wrongly.

Notice in this screenshot for example (from Google Hindi), I have marked the errant text. The error is consistent throughout in all the web pages in Hindi that I have seen. Wondering what the heck is wrong, I decided (or was coaxed into) blogging about it.
Since I was going to blog about it, I thought that I should do a little bit of R&D on this. Well, to make a long story short, a quick look at Wikipedia resulted in the knowledge that you need proper rendering support to display certain text properly. Devnagri (the script used to write Hindi) is one of these. A visit to the wiki page about the mentioned rendering support showed this:

Notice once again the highlighted part. This is the same problem that I have been facing all this time. Well following the advice to fix the control panel settings in Windows XP, fixed the problem for me. Now I see everything fine:

Next time, I will try to be not so lazy when I see a problem.
