Facebook EventSync for Outlook 2007

Hello Everyone,

This is my first attempt to create a Facebook Application. It is an Outlook 2007 plugin which downloads the events on Facebook into an Outlook 2007 Calendar of your choice. To be able to run this plugin, you need to have .net Framework 2.0 and VSTO 2005 installed on your computer.

Please understand that this is my personal project and I am not responsible for any problems caused by the use of this plugin. However, I believe the most harm this plugin can do is not work on its own. If you have a problem, post it as comments on this page and I will try to address it.

Depending on how many people like it I might make enhancements to it in the future.

Installation and Download Instructions:

There are some pre-requisites for the application and they are:

  • DotNet 2.0 Framework: Download here.
  • VSTO Runtime: Download here.
  • Office 2007 PIA: Download here.

Once you have verified that these are installed (or installed them), then download the application: Facebook-Outlook EventSync

Extract the installed from the zip file. Run the MSI and you should be able to install the add-in. Fire up Outlook 2007, and you should see a simple toolbar called Facebook.

  • Click on Settings button and fill out the settings.
  • If you want an autosync, then enable it and setup the time interval.
  • Choose an Outlook calendar which the Facebook Calendar is to be synced with.
  • Click Save.
  • Click on Sync Events button to get going.

For any problems that you may come across, email me at vaibhav.gadodia@gmail.com.

Update: There have been a lot of people who have come back with feature requests and bug reports. Though I would love to be able to provide these, I don’t have the time. I am willing to put this project on Open Source if there are enough willing contributors (and there are also a couple of things that I have to clear internally as part of the application uses code I developed for my employer). For anyone who is interested, mail me.
