Bandwidth Upgrade in India

High Speed Bandwidth is my Holy Grail in India and I have been looking for it ever since broadband was introduced in India. So last week, inspired by Scott Hanselman and encouraged by more plans offered by Airtel, last week I decided to upgrade my internet bandwidth plan. I took a plan which gives me an internet bandwidth up to 2Mbps. Well ‘up to’ is the operational word here, as I have done millions of tests since my plan got upgraded (well plenty of them), and have not had 1 test which rates my connection above 512Kbps. The other shortfall for this plan is that I have a monthly download limit of 8GB, above which I pay extra (my earlier plan had no limit on download).

Well, hopefully this will get better after their support engineer pays a visit to diagnose the problem for this end. After having said all that I have to say that browsing has definitely become zippier.

Update: I tried another test and also the ones my ISP recommended and finally clocked good speeds. I used a test from auditmypc.com and below are the results. However, I must say that I also did another test from the same website and got a result which was no-where close. Don’t know what the difference between the two tests is.
