Analyzing Feed Subscribers

Since I manage my feeds using FeedBurner, it becomes very easy for me to track how many people are subscribing to my feeds. I have a number of people who subscribe to this feed, and that number has slowly but steadily grown over the years. Every day, some new people subscribe to the feed, and every day, some old subscribers stop using the feed.

So, how does this number grow?

How do subscribers get added?

Let’s analyze how I get visitors. Google Analytics tells me that more than half of the users who visit this blog come through search engines. I am assuming that some of these new visitors like the site for whatever reason, and decide to stay. Either they start visiting it regularly, or they subscribe to the feed to get notified of new content. This is how subscribers get added.

How does the number go down?

Well, after someone has subscribed to my blog, and they realize that the content is not what they want to be reading regularly, they leave. So, the count goes down.

So, how come it has crept up slowly?

Well, obviously that would be because more people stay then leave. But, there is another reason. Not all people leave the blog because they don’t like the content anymore. Some people leave because there are not enough regular updates. And so, whenever I make a new post (such as this one), this category of users stay a little longer. And if I continue to make regular contributions to the blog, the number keeps going up slowly.

So, to get more subscribers, I must write more. As much as I would love to post daily here, it is totally dependent upon time available to me.

Well, all of you, who are currently subscribed to my blog, and have been for some time. I thank you for staying.
