An easy way to save images from a PowerPoint
Recently, I came across a task in which I had to convert some content in a PowerPoint file to more free flowing text and upload it into a Wiki. The author of the PPT file had used a number of images on his slides to accompany the text.
The process that I had to follow to upload the images onto the Wiki was as follows:
- Copy image from PPT on clipboard.
- Open Paint, and paste the copied image.
- Save image as jpeg.
- Upload image file on Wiki and refer it in the wiki page.
After about 3-4 images, I got tired of doing this. There has to be a way to easily get all those images out from the PowerPoint, I thought.
There is, if you are using Office 2007 file format (the powerpoint that I received was in 2003 format, so I had to upgrade it first).
Okay, so all you have to do (to extract the images) is rename the pptx file to zip. This allows you to open the PowerPoint file as a zip folder in your favorite zip program. The image on the right represents the hierarchy of the ‘zip folder’ and highlights the directory which contains all the images in the PowerPoint – simply copy them to wherever you like.
Simple, right?
Once again, the steps are:
- Locate the pptx file in your explorer.
- Rename the file, so that it ends in a .zip extension.
- Open the .zip, and locate the media folder in the zip hierarchy as shown in the image here.
- Get all the image files in the PowerPoint from the media folder.
