Habitually Good

I have ranted in the past about how Akismet misses some Spam comments. (Just in case you don’t know, Akismet is the best anti-spam service in the world, so you should find the plugin for your blogging platform and install it). But it’s about time I talk about how helpful it is.

I went through some of the comments that Akismet blocked this week (to check for false positives) and some of the comments are interesting attempts by Spammers. Of course, Akismet blocked them all.

Here’s the first one:

This particular type of comment I get a lot. It looks so innocent. I might have let it be on my blog if Akismet had failed to detect this. The reason it is a spam is because I got a lot of these with exactly the same text on a lot of other posts; except that it replaces the title to match the title of the post the spam comment is posted on. In this case the title of the post was “9 tips to keep your Outlook 2007 Kicking”. Not sure, what this spammer is trying to achieve.

Here’s another one:

Notice the email domain in this one, I get a whole lot of spam from this domain. And the type of spam (the message) keeps changing very regularly.

And another one:

I don’t believe this guy and the post that this comment was on, was one of my off-topic boring posts.

I think by looking at the Akismet blocked comments, it’s clear that spammers are trying something new everyday. It’s also clear that they are not giving up Brute Force either. Because I have a ton of comments with the usual viagra links and comments which are bigger than the length of my post as well.
