A day out with the birds
It has been some time since we have been planning to visit Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary and finally today, along with some friends, it happened. The place is about 20 minutes driving from home and there really was no excuse to delay it for so long. For those living in Gurgaon, India, it is about 30 minutes from the famous MG road malls.
Once you get there however, you forget that you are so close to a noisy, polluted, crowded, traffic ridden, concrete jungle. The place is very tranquil. And since this was in the middle of winters, there were a large number of migratory birds visiting the place.
Of course, I had to try out my camera at this place and it taught me that I have a whole lot to learn about photography. I did manage to catch some nice pictures like this White Breasted Kingfisher to the right. There were a whole lot of these guys around (this species is native to Sultanpur Lake).
The other thing about photography in Sultanpur is that almost all the birds are in the middle of the lake on these small islands that are all over the place. So, if you are hoping to snap off some good shots, you better have a super telephoto lense with you with a decent tripod else you will be getting a lot of blurry photos.
Other than the photos, the place is pure bliss. Your mind just stops thinking about work and starts enjoying the nature. I wouldn’t say that this is the best place (national park wise) that I have ever been to, but I can say that it is a place worth visiting more often given that it is so close to home.
